Christmas Bells

Dear Mamala Media Friends and Family,

There is something deep in our souls that is touched by the sound of church bells.  A stirring of memories, an assurance of God’s presence and a sense of peace seem to rise within and cause us to stop and listen wherever we are when we hear them.

Like a clarion call in times of struggle, the sound of church bells reminds us that God is near.

There is no better sentiment than these words penned by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, to state what everyone has felt at some point this past calendar year.

Then in despair I bowed my head;
“There is no peace on earth,” I said;
“For hate is strong, and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.”

Although we each may feel despair, my hope is that we will not cling to it.  Instead, trust in the declaration of the final stanza that this great poem expresses.

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
”God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on earth, good will to men.”

My prayer for all this Christmas is that you will hear the peal of the bells, stop and listen, and know that God is near.
